Tröegs Brewery Wins Bronze Medal in World Beer Cup

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA — Tröegs Brewing Company recently claimed a bronze medal in the Brewers Association (BA) World Beer Cup© 2006, a global beer competition that evaluates beers recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world.

Gold, silver and bronze medals in the competition’s 85 beer-style categories were awarded April 14, 2006, during the World Beer Cup Gala Awards Ceremony and Dinner in Seattle, Washington.

Tröegs Brewery was awarded a bronze medal in the Traditional German-Style Bock category for Troegenator Doublebock, a smooth, mahogany-colored lager. Owners Chris and John Trogner first created Troegenator—inspired by German monastic brews—three years ago; it became a year-round beer in 2003, and is the brewery’s second best-selling beer.

“It’s a privilege to win a medal, especially in a category that attracts so many European breweries with generations of brewing tradition,” said John Trogner. “Troegenator is becoming our signature beer. When we started brewing it, we knew there was interest in a year-round 8.2% beer, we’ve been surprised with how much this beer sells even in warmer months—beer drinkers never cease to amaze us.”

World Beer Cup 2006 winners were selected by an international panel of 109 beer judges from a field of 2,221 entries received from 540 breweries in 56 countries. More than 3,800 breweries in 100 countries were invited to compete.

The 109 judges were from 18 countries: (3) Austrialia, (1) Austria, (8) Belgium, (3) Canada, (1) Cayman Island, (1) Czech Republic, (3) Denmark, (1) Finald, (12) Germany, (1) Italy, (4) Japan, (3) Netherlands, (2) New Zealand, (1) Romania, (1) Singapore, (2) Sweden, (8) UK, (55) USA.

Founded by brothers Chris and John Trogner in 1997, Tröegs Brewery is a small, family-owned specialty brewery.
