New Barrels

Filed under: Cellar, Splinter SeriesTim @ 1:44 pm

Hopefully some of you were able to get your hands on the latest Splinter Series  releases: Red and Gold.  If not, don’t worry, the Series will continue to develop.  We currently have at least 8 wine and 2 bourbon barrels filled with potential goodness.  Recently John and Andrew visited Allegro Vineyards in Brogue, PA and came home with 15 freshly emptied wine barrels.  There’s no plans for them as of yet, but it’s cool to have them ready to go as we discuss future Scratch and Splinter beers.  While at Allegro they heard about a cooper in PA making wine barrels from locally grown White Oak.  A little digging and a phone call later and we’ve got 6 new barrels on the way from Keystone Cooperage, a family owned company in SW PA that not only makes really nice barrels, but does so as green as they can.  I’m really looking forward to getting them in-house and putting them to work.
