Tröegs Single Batch Beers are
designed to let our brewers have a little fun, and brew something special
that they really want to drink.
As a production brewery, we are
constantly focused on making sure our year-round and seasonal offerings
meet the highest standards. With our single-batch beers, the Tröegs
brewers get to spread their wings by testing new ingredients,
investigating new brewing techniques, and creating unique, high-quality
beers that tingle our taste buds.
Luckily, the consumer gets an
opportunity to enjoy our little experiments since each extremely-limited
batch finds its way to specialty beer bars Central Pennsylvania. However, if you read about one of these batches, act quickly since
they disappear within weeks of release.
After that, you never know what
will happen--a few of our single-batch beers have made it into our regular
rotation; but most important we take what we learn from these limited
editions and incorporate it into the daily brewing process.

Naked Elf
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory.
Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would
taste like without the cherries and honey.
So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy
yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The
combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and
minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of
the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish.
The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing
act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers
in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in
this complex, warming elixir. |

Mystery Pils

Let the pilsner experimentation continue. For the second time in just
five months, we are releasing an experimental pilsner batch. (Yeah, we
keep telling John that we’re the middle of winter, but he’s always on a
pilsner kick!) This single-batch version has just completed fermentation
and will be ready to drink after a few weeks of lagering.
“We continue to experiment with malts, and want to create an
aggressively-hopped pilsner that still retains true pilsner traits,”
says Brother John. “This time we went for more bittering up front in the
beer, using predominantly Northern Brewers hops in the boil. The aroma
has the familiar ‘stinkiness’ of Czech Saaz hops. The beer finished at
47 IBU’s, is 6% abv, and has a nice straw color.”
We
hoping to have Mystery batch #2 on tap in our tasting room Feb. and
