Troegenator Double Bock won a silver medal at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival Competition (GABF), the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today. The top three winners in the competition’s 69 beer-style categories were announced September 30 at the 25th Annual Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado.

Tröegs Brewery was recognized in the Bock category for Troegenator. “This is only the second year we have sent beer to the GABF because we’ve never brewed beer to specific style guidelines,” said Chris Trogner. “That being said, everyone at the brewery is quite proud of this accomplishment because winning at medal at the GABF places you in an elite group of breweries.”

This is the second major honor for Troegenator this year; in April, the beer was awarded a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup.

The 2006 Great American Beer Festival Competition winners were selected by an International panel of brewing experts from an impressive field of 2,443 entries received from 450 U.S. breweries. More than 1,200 breweries were invited to compete. “The Great American Beer Festival is the premier judging event for the American Craft Beer Industry,” said Nancy Johnson, festival director. “It’s exciting, being the 25th celebration, that this is our biggest show of entries. That’s proof positive that being chosen a winner, no matter is gold, silver or bronze is truly an accomplishment.”
